Horticulture

Horticulture is the dynamic interface between Art (inspiration) and Science (understanding). The inherent value of Horticulture as an educational tool is self-evident. The primary purpose of education is to enhance our understanding of the natural world our (r)evolutionary place in it. The elements of design, the cycling of elements (H2O, N, C) and energy, evolution, natives vs. exotics, animal and plant interactions, and conservation are all concepts that easily lend themselves to be conveyed throught the natural and contrived beauty of skillful practice. Through the use of educational tools to complement intelligent use of plant materials, we can convey and translate these subtle and nuianced concepts into recognition and understanding. To realize these goals I am convinced that a new paradigm needs to be adopted that is multi-dimensional in scope, synergistic in its approach to organization and function, and one that has enough depth and bredth to provide the adequate context so often lacking in educational experiences today.
